As things unfold in Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation into possible collusion between the Russian government and Trump’s team, Trump’s former campaign manager and aide, Paul Manafort and Rick Gates surrendered to the feds.
In addition to Manafort, a former Trump foreign policy adviser pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his relationship with foreign government officials. According to CNN, George Papadopoulos “falsely described his interactions with a certain foreign contact who discussed ‘dirt’ related to emails” about Hillary Clinton.
Although the charges brought against Manafort and Gates are not related to the possibility of collusion between Trump and the Russians, there is still a possibility of additional charges. However, Trump has already attempted to clear his name in a tweet following Manafort’s surrendering, but before Papadopoulos’ guilty plea was unsealed, CNN reports.
“Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign. But why aren’t Crooked Hillary & the Dems the focus?????” Trump tweeted. “…Also, there is NO COLLUSION.”
