As if Fox News has ever had anything good to say about hip-hop artists or hip-hop culture, the show and its guests have targeted another group of rappers and this time for anti-semitism.
Recently on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, he sat down with Victor Davis Hanson of the Hoover Institute and discussed the topic of moral hypocrisy in the mainstream, but hip-hop was specifically chosen to be dragged through the mud.
Hanson said, “We’ve got this whole trope now in rap music, all the major marquee rappers, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, Scarface…It’s just rampant anti-Semitism. And we saw Lebron James, our national icon, retweeting the anti-Semitic tweet of a rapper with no consequences. So the American people are saying to themselves, ‘Wow, what are the rules?’”
Despite the fact that both Lebron James and 21 Savage apologized for sharing what people deemed an “anti-semitic” message, Hanson believes the same moral standards are being expected selectively, not across the board and the perceived level of outrage was inconsistent.
For those wondering why these three rappers were mentioned, Ice Cube faced backlash back in the day for a perceived anti-semitic lyric directed at N.W.A’s former manager Jerry Heller on his 1990 N.W.A diss song “No Vaseline.” For his part, Jay referenced the perceived wealth of Jewish people on “The Story of O.J.,” rapping, “You wanna know what’s more important than throwin’ away money at a strip club? You ever wonder why Jewish people own all the property in America? This how they did it.”
In 2013, Scarface claimed that Jewish people were responsible for the demise of what he felt was the core of rap culture. “I feel like we losing [hip hop]. I feel like the people that are in control of what hip hop does is so fucking white and so fucking Jewish until they don’t give a fuck about what the culture and the craft and what it really is about.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hanson continued his rant, claiming hypocrisy from the “left,” stating “I think it’s really dangerous throughout history when you have a group that sets themselves up as the arbiters of morality. We’ve seen it with the Catholic Church and the abuse problems, we saw that with the MeToo and the Hollywood Liberals like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey. They feel they’re not subject to the same standards they demand of others.”
What do you think about Hanson’s accusations against our beloved hip hop legends? Will Fox News‘ hosts and contributors ever become familiar with the culture as a whole?
