A new beef appears to be brewing between Foxy Brown and Dj Envy, regarding his comments made during a recent interview on The Breakfast Club with her former manager, Don Pooh.
During the interview, Envy asked Pooh what happened to Foxy’s career, which was once extremely promising after the release of her debut album “Ill Na Na” in 1996. The album sold over 109,000 copies in the first week, debuting at #7 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Despite her success, she has not released an album since 2001’s “Broken Silence.”
Pooh responded that the rapper seemingly fell back on her own, claiming she “just fell back a little bit” after giving birth to her daughter. However, he appeared optimistic for her return.
“Hopefully, we will see or hear from her soon,” Pooh said.
During the conversation, Envy suggested the rapper’s career had “dwindled off,” and in response, Foxy took to Instagram to set him straight.
In a now-deleted post, Foxy wrote, “FISH ASS ENVY @djenvy Act stupid if u want! Damn near broke ur BACK carrying MY RECORDS & CHANEL LUGGAGE Til’ DEF JAM sent u back to the HOOD!!!” She then continued, “4 MULTI PLATINUM ALBUMS F–K BOY!!! PLAY NICE! GAVE YOU LIFE!”
Foxy also alluded to Envy being salty that she declined to do a Breakfast Club interview. “AGGY cuz we ain’t do Breakfast Club! D-CKRIDER.”
Envy responded, claiming that the New York rapper is “a little delirious.” He revealed that at one point in her career, he used to write and DJ for her. ”I used to be with her writing team that used to help her write…I actually produced a couple of joints for her, I believe,” he said.
However, he disclosed that the relationship soured after he was not appropriately compensated for a gig.
According to Envy, Foxy was paid $70,000 for a show. But, despite the large sum she received, she only paid him $300, to which the DJ said, “I never DJed for her again, but I wish her the best.”
“You don’t hear her no more, and I just asked why. But…whatever,” Envy explained, dismissing the notion that there was any ill intent behind his comments.
Foxy has been notably absent from the music industry for years, having experienced hearing loss in 2005. She was featured on Nicki Minaj’s 2018 “Queen” album on the track “Coco Chanel,” sparking talks of new solo records. In May of 2019, she was seen being booed off stage while performing at Kandi Burruss’ ”Welcome to the Dungeon Tour” in New York City. The rapper has kept a relatively low profile since the viral video emerged.
