France is giving the United States another Statue of Liberty.
The current Statue of Liberty resides on Liberty Island in New York City. It was a gift to the States by the people of France and was dedicated on October 28, 1886. Now, France is sending the country another one. The smaller-scale statue has been nicknamed the “little sister,” according to Yahoo! News.
The statue has been on display at the National Museum of Arts and Crafts (CNAM) in Paris. It will make its first stop in New York from July 1 to July 5, and then it will be moved to Washington, DC. to stay for 10 years. The new Liberty is 1/16 in size, and it will be located in a garden at the French ambassador’s home in D.C.
“We want to send a very simple message: Our friendship with the United States is very important, particularly at this moment,” Olivier Faron, general administrator of the CNAM, told CNN. “We have to conserve and defend our friendship.”
