French Montana reflects on being set up by one of his friends to be shot and killed.
French recently sat down with Sway’s Universe where he opened up about surviving a shooting in 2003. The rapper recalls being shot in the head and how his friend was the one who set him up. What makes the story wild, is that the same friend that set him up also drove him to the hospital after the shooting.
“The person that set me up is the one that drove me to the hospital,” he said. “Your greatest threat always comes from the inside. They put staples in my head, b*tch, they been tried.”
French was then asked if he still kept in contact with his former friend and he replied, that there “was no communication” after a situation like that.
The shooting happened in a Bronx studio in 2003. Two gunmen approached French and a tussle broke out. The wrestling ended with French suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound to the head. The gunman who shot French died after his assailant shot a “friendly fire.”
“I guess one of the n*ggas I was with had the drop on me, tried to set me up,” he told VladTV in 2008. “When I came downstairs, n*ggas already but I ain’t run. We had the thing on us, they had the thing on them. But they got to their thing first.”
He continued, “Son tried to hit me up, we wrestled and in the midst of all that, I got shot in my head. The bullet went in and out. I went to Lincoln Hospital. The n*gga that shot me in the back of my head was left there.”
French was charged with murder but beat the case.
