The Fulton County Jail is at the center of a major scandal as four of its security officers have been arrested on multiple charges related to smuggling contraband and improper conduct with inmates. The arrests follow an extensive investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, which uncovered a series of shocking offenses involving the officers.

The Accused Officers:

  • LaQuna Ballard, 34: Ballard is facing serious charges, including one count of possession of prohibited items by an inmate or providing prohibited items to an inmate and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony. According to the sheriff’s office, she allegedly sent explicit photos to an inmate and took payments for smuggling cell phones and cigarettes into the jail.
  • Regina Harris, 26: Harris has been charged with one count of possession of prohibited items by an inmate or providing prohibited items to an inmate, one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, and one count of crossing guard lines of jail with prohibited items. She is accused of providing a cell phone to an inmate.
  • Anizya Silas, 24: Silas is charged with one count of possession of prohibited items by an inmate or providing prohibited items to an inmate and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony. The investigation revealed that she allegedly gave an inmate a phone charger and an unauthorized staff meal.
  • Breaisha Tate, 26: Tate faces the most serious charges, including three counts of improper sexual contact by an employee or agent in the second degree, five counts of crossing guard lines of jail with prohibited items, and two counts of possession of prohibited items by an inmate or providing prohibited items to an inmate. She is accused of engaging in sexual relations with an inmate multiple times and smuggling six cell phones and other contraband to another inmate.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the investigation could lead to even more arrests, as the involvement of additional individuals, including inmates, has been uncovered. The sheriff’s office released a statement emphasizing that these women violated the trust placed in them as officers.

“These women, unfortunately, chose to be on the wrong side of the law by fraternizing with residents they were entrusted with watching over,” said Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat. “They will now have to face the consequences for the crimes they are accused of committing. Our employees and contractors alike are held to a high standard of integrity.”

The scandal has sent shockwaves through the Fulton County Jail, raising serious questions about the security and oversight within the facility. With the possibility of more arrests on the horizon, this investigation continues to unfold, putting a spotlight on the need for strict enforcement of rules and ethical standards among jail staff.
