GQ Magazine has named Future the best rapper alive.
The Atlanta rapper’s unveiled cover story for the magazine, he opens up on a variety of things, including his happiness, his upcoming album, his relationships with Drake and Kanye, and of course the subject of toxicity.
It’s been a while since Future gave us an album in which he cites his newfound happiness as the reason for the delay. “That’s because I’m happy,” he said. “I’m genuinely happy with life. And there was a time where I was only happy when I was on the stage and in the studio. Like it was my escape,” he told interviewer Elliot Wilson.

As for his working relationship with Drake, the artist says, “Anytime we work in the studio, the level, the energy—we’re trying to perfect this shit but still stay raw, still stay gritty, and still be moving at the speed of the universe. It’s something that you have to work at, but it’s something that you have to find too.”
Drake was quoted calling the What a Time to Be Alive co-crafter a “relentless, spontaneous workhorse” whose “free-flowing genius” mixes well with his own.
And when it comes to the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, Future discusses how Ye saying he was “the most influential artist of the past 10 years” during a 2021 Drink Champs interview helped him understand why Ye had flown him out to Paris over a decade ago to work on music together.

“When he said that, I understood why he called me to Paris, even though I didn’t understand it at that time,” he said. “I understood why we had certain conversations. I understood him being a part of ‘I Won.’ Even him having me write on certain [Ye] albums that people don’t even understand I wrote on.”
And, of course, there was the subject of toxicity, which the Freedbandz founder pushed back his association with. “People have their own definition of what toxic is. [These women] all were toxic to me. They just don’t want to admit it.”
He also revealed he was not actually aware of Kevin Samuel’s work before Samuels appeared in his “Worst Day” video as a guest. Future claimed that if he had known of Samuel’s work beforehand, he would probably not have made it in the video.
Future’s album is set to arrive later this month. He said he driving his fans both vulnerability and versatility, new tracks that interviewer Wilson teased show more reliance on aggression than hooks.
Either way, we’re sure Future will give us some heat right in time for the summer!
