Authorities say the 22-year-old man accused of stabbing a Sandy Springs police officer on Friday has now been charged in the deaths of a firefighter and his wife who were shot at their Cobb County home.
Matthew Lanz of Acworth is detained in the Fulton County Jail. He faces several charges surrounding a Sandy Springs break-in. Police accuse him of stabbing a responding officer. Another officer shot Lanz.
He was treated at a hospital before he was taken into custody.
Cobb County police are now saying Lanz is the suspect in the fatal shooting of Cherokee County firefighter Justin Thompson Hicks and his wife, Amber Hicks, both 31.
Police found the couple dead inside their Acworth home Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
A 2-year-old was also found inside but luckily unharmed.
“Justin has touched and impacted many lives, and he will be dearly missed,” Chief Tim Prather said Friday in a news release. “Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of a member of our family and his lovely wife.”
a GoFundMe campaign was made to help with the costs of raising and caring for the 2-year-old, and for funeral expenses.
