The world fell in love with Gabrielle Douglas’s effortless skill, charismatic personality, and bright smile back in 2012 when she won gold at the London Olympic Games. Douglas became the first African-American to win the all-around title.
In 2014, Lifetime released the original movie “The Gabby Douglas Story” to highlight her journey to olympic gold. After a three-year hiatus, Gabby Douglas is back, this time, with a reality show on the Oxygen Network.
The show will be produced by Douglas, her mother Natalie Hawkins and a few others. “Douglas Family Gold” is the title and it will focus around the gymnast’s family life and the 19-year-old’s quest to defend her title at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Douglas returned to training last summer and finished fourth at the Jesolo Cup in Italy last weekend in her first meet in nearly three years.
The network reported, “The Douglas family shuttles between California and Ohio to support Gabby’s training regimen while also juggling their own lives. Her brother John is the family’s second Olympic hopeful in track and field, while devoted sisters Arie and Joy are eager to blaze their own paths. “Momager” Natalie keeps this tight-knit family in check, knowing [that] regardless of what happens, ‘Team Douglas’ has already won gold.”
“Douglas Family Gold” is expected to debut later this year, but no official air date has been announced yet.
