Gabby Petito’s Family Claims Brian Laundrie’s Family Attorney Also Knew She Was Dead All Along

Gabby Petito’s mother is calling bs on Brian Laundrie’s claims that he killed his fiancee as an act of mercy after she was severely injured while crossing a stream.

In an interview on NBC’s Today Show, Nichole Schmidt said she believes Laundrie’s notebook confession is “100 percent” not true.

“That was his character, even in his last moments,” Schmidt said. “He wanted to make sure he looked like the good guy. That’s ridiculous. We know how she died.”

An attorney representing Laundrie’s parents released images from the 23-year-old’s notebook. Laundrie wrote that Petito, 22, had been “begging for an end to her pain” and that he thought her killing was “merciful.” “I ended her life,” he wrote in the notebook before taking his own life.

The couple had set out on a cross-country road trip together last year, but Laundrie returned to his parent’s Florida home alone on Sept. 1. Petito’s family reported her missing ten days later.

Petitio’s body was found in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19, shortly after her family reported her missing. It was revealed in October that she died from strangulation, and her death was ruled a homicide.

A warrant was issued for Laundrie days after Petito’s body was discovered, but not for her death. Laundrie’s location was unknown at the time the warrant was issued. He was never arrested on the charges; instead, his remains were discovered in a nature park on Oct. 20.

Schmidt also announced a $100,000 donation from the Gabby Petitio Foundation to help combat domestic violence. The money will be given to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, which saw an increase in calls and chats following Petitio’s death, to help reach their $2 million fundraising goal.

“Our story begins because of a domestic violence tragedy, and we don’t want to see that happen to anybody else,” Schmidt told the Today Show.
