Gabrielle Union has written a children’s book inspired by her one-year-old daughter Kaavia James.
The book titled Welcome to the Party is the first children’s book for the actress, who is already a New York Times bestselling author.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I’m so excited to be releasing my first children’s book,” Gabrielle told PEOPLE. “Since the birth of my daughter … I’ve been even more inspired to create stories that are not only representative of the cultural melting pot we live in, but also celebrate life and the fun, teachable lessons that come at every age.”
Kaavia James Union Wade was born in November 2018 via surrogate and is the first child to Gabrielle and her husband, Dwyane Wade.
She often gushes over Kaavia online and told PEOPLE last year: “She looks just like Dad, but I’d like to think the attitude is from me. She will stare into your soul and tell you about yourself through her eyes.”
The book, published by Harper Collins, is illustrated by Ashley Evans and will be available on May 5.
