Days ago, makers of the popular adult card game Cards Against Humanity filed a lawsuit in a Texas court against Elon Musk’s SpaceX for $15 million.
The game company claims SpaceX is trespassing and damaging the land that they own located near the U.S.-Mexico border. Cards Against Humanity purchased the land near Brownsville, Texas, in 2017 as a political protest against Donald Trump’s plan to build a border wall project.
According to the court documents, SpaceX contractors allegedly removed the vegetation on the land. They laid gravel over the property in an effort to create space for the company’s parking lots and work buildings. The lawsuit states that the construction has been going on for a minimum of six months as SpaceX has been acting as if the property is their own and not respecting the property rights. To add fuel to the fire, Cards Against Humanity shared on Instagram that Musk “snuck up on us from behind and completely (expletive) that land with gravel, tractors, and space garbage.”
Additionally, the lawsuit alleges the property is a full worksite that is disregarding the necessary safety regulations outlined by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). As a result, Cards Against Humanity is seeking compensation not only for the damages done to the land but also for the disrespect of their property rights. If the courts ruled in their favor, the company plans to split the funds among 150,000 individuals who contributed to the purchase of the land.
“While this isn’t enough to compensate our subscribers for the anguish they’ve suffered witnessing Elon Musk defile their once-verdant land,” the company said, “we think it’s a pretty good start.”
