New York Jets fans finally have something to celebrate before kickoff.
The franchise announced today that wide receiver Garrett Wilson has inked a four-year, $130 million contract extension—keeping him locked in through the 2030 season. The deal makes the 24-year-old the fifth-highest-paid wide receiver in the league.
At $32.5 million annually, Wilson now sits just behind Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb, and DK Metcalf in salary. For the Jets, this contract is both a major financial commitment and a smart move under the cap. New York will average just over $25 million per year, which is efficient for a player of Wilson’s caliber.
This historic extension makes Wilson the first player in league history to secure such a deal after just three seasons in the NFL.
The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year has put up consistent numbers since his debut. Last season, Wilson logged 1,104 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while sharing the field with Davante Adams, who has since moved on to Los Angeles. With Adams gone and Aaron Rodgers off to Pittsburgh, Wilson becomes the go-to target for newly acquired quarterback Justin Fields.
The Jets have been vocal about locking in their future, and Wilson was priority number one. Cornerback Sauce Gardner is expected to be next in line for a mega-extension, setting up a foundation of young elite talent for years to come.
If the Jets can finalize one more big extension this offseason, it’ll be hard not to call it a win—even before the games begin. Now, the real goal? Snapping their 16-year playoff drought.
