Gayle King, the iconic CBS anchor, is set to join the ranks of some incredible women for Blue Origin’s next mission to the edge of space.
The flight, expected to launch this spring, is part of the company’s New Shepard program, marking this the 11th human mission.
Alongside her will be pop star Katy Perry, philanthropist and journalist Lauren Sánchez, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
During a recent interview, King shared that space travel wasn’t exactly on her bucket list. “This was never my dream,” she admitted. But after consulting with family and her longtime friend Oprah Winfrey, King realized the opportunity was too good to pass up.
“I thought Oprah would say no, no. She said, ‘I think if you don’t do it, when they all come back and you had the opportunity to do it, you will be kicking yourself.’ She’s right,” King explained.
Despite some nerves, King says she’s fully prepared and eager for what lies ahead. “I believe in Blue Origin, what they’re doing,” she said. “These women have such amazing life stories.”
Now, it’s time for King to take the next step into the unknown, and it’s clear that she’s excited for the adventure ahead. “I am really excited and actually looking forward to it,” she said, preparing for her historic ride into space.
This spring, we’ll be watching as Gayle King and her powerhouse crew make history.
