The George Floyd Memorial Center has announced a Day of Enlightenment on George Floyd’s death anniversary.
The center declared May 25th the annual Day of Enlightenment (D.O.E.) to celebrate the life and legacy of Floyd, who was murdered on that date in 2020 by former police officer Derek Chauvin who kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.
As part of this year’s inaugural D.O.E., the center is selling limited edition 5/25 D.O.E. merchandise and encouraging buyers to post photos of themselves on social media using the hashtags #525DOE and #GeorgeFloydMC.
“We will continue to unapologetically move the needle forward for real change, and we want everyone in communities all over the country and world to join us,” said Roger Floyd, George Floyd’s uncle and chief impact officer for the GFMC.
The George Floyd Memorial Center is located in Raleigh, N.C. The center features an interactive museum, online educational programs, and other special events. The end goal is to transform the center into a multicultural center that will house the Museum of Urbanistic Art and feature permanent and temporary art displays. Art auctions, art showings, and youth art programs will also be a significant part of the center.
