Houston Mayor announced in a news conference on Friday that George Floyd’s body will be returning home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“This is the same city that George Floyd grew up in, and his body will be returning to this city,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said.
Floyd, who lost his life on Memorial Day at the hands of Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, was described as being a “gentle giant” by his brother.
Former NBA player Stephen Jackson spoke to CNN about his late friend, his “twin,” he said, “Floyd was known in the community as a protector and a provider who didn’t have a hateful bone in his body. He got along with everybody and seldom wanted anything in return for helping someone out.”
“Knowing my brother is to love my brother,” Philonise Floyd said to CNN.
Mayor Turner asked of the Houston community that upon his arrival and afterward, the focus “is on supporting and uplifting his family.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Funeral arrangements have yet to be released.
