George Floyd’s Grandniece, 4, Shot While Asleep in Houston Home

George Floyd’s 4-year-old grandniece was shot while asleep in her home.

Arianna, 4, was asleep in her Houston home when she was shot. The bullet struck her in her torso, puncturing her lung and liver. It also broke three of her ribs, the New York Post reports, per ABC 13 Houston.

The child was immediately taken to the hospital, where she underwent surgery; she is now in stable condition, according to the news outlet. Several bullets were shot through the apartment at around 3 a.m. There were four adults and two children in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Reports show that the police have yet to determine if one person was behind the shooting or multiple. They also haven’t pinned down a motive for the shooting. The New York Post reports that the child was often brought along with the family to social justice marches put together for her late Uncle Floyd.

Former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd in May 2021. Chauvin was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison.
