Authorities have identified 14-year-old Colt Gray as the suspect in the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey confirmed the identification at a news conference, stating that Gray, a student at the high school, will face murder charges and be tried as an adult.
The shooting, which took place around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of two teachers and two students. Nine other people were injured and taken to local hospitals. The incident led to a lockdown of schools across Barrow County as police and emergency responders secured the area and ensured the safety of other students and staff.
Officials also revealed that the high school had received a phone threat earlier in the day, warning of potential shootings at multiple schools, with Apalachee High School mentioned as the first target. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the call.
As the community responds to this incident, all schools in the county will remain closed for the rest of the week.
