Georgia Sheriff Removed As Spokesperson From Spa Day Shooting Case After Claiming The Suspect Had A “Bad Day”

Not many people will choose to sympathize with a mass shooter, yet, Captain Jay Baker, the Georgia Sheriff who was once the spokesperson for the Spa Day shooting’s case, is the exception. He has since been removed from the case.

In Baker’s eyes, Robert Aaron Long — the shooter — was having a “bad day.”

“He was pretty much fed up and had been kind of at the end of his rope,” Baker said on Wednesday. “Yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did.”

The spa day killings that took place at three spas around the Atlanta-area total left eight people dead. For Baker to blame this on a “bad day” is blatant disrespect for the lives lost.

As expected, his controversial comments were highly criticized, according to People. The hashtag #ReallyBadDay even began trending on Twitter, with more than 40,000 tweets.

It was not until media outlets began to resurface old social media posts that things started to get out of hand with Baker.

We previously reported that Baker promoted sales of a T-shirt that referred to COVID-19 as an “imported virus from Chy-na.”

“Place your order while they last,” he captioned one of the many posts.

All of this ultimately leads to him being disassociated with the case in the future.

Although the sheriff’s department disagrees in regards to Baker intentionally being disrespectful, they do agree that removing him as a spokesperson is the best option. His supervisors are, however, looking into how this will influence his future in the department.

Long, on the other hand, faces eight counts of murder.

Many sources confirm that the crimes committed were not out of hate or prejudice. Therefore, his motive is still unknown.
