The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a woman accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, including money donated to help sick children.
54-year-old Rhonda Sheppard of Dahlonega was charged with theft by taking from authorities earlier this week and was booked into the Lumpkin County Detention Center.
Earlier this year, the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate after Sheriff Stacy Jarrard learned from a citizen that the terms of a residents’ will were not carried out by Sheppard, who was the executor. One of the terms of the will involved a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
That investigation uncovered that Sheppard took over $400,000 for personal use.
