Gervonta Davis has recently converted to Islam.
The Baltimore native reportedly changed his name to Abdul Wahid, which translates to “Servant [of the] Absolute One” or “Servant [of] Allah.”
The boxer solidified his commitment on December 24 as part of a personal effort to strengthen his faith journey.
Despite a challenging year, including a 42-day jail term for a 2021 hit-and-run conviction, he has not fought since defeating Ryan Garcia in April, and his next match is unknown.
It’s uncertain whether he will continue competing under the name Davis or his newly adopted name, Wahid.
