Ghana Confirms Its First Two Cases Of The Deadly And Contagious Marburg Virus

Ghana confirms its first two cases of the deadly and highly-contagious virus, Marburg.

The highly deadly virus called Marburg reportedly causes hemorrhagic fever and has a fatality rate of up to 88 percent, according to World Health Organization (WHO). The organization says Marburg also lives in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola. Some of the symptoms associated with the virus include a high fever, severe headaches and severe malaise. 

There are now 98 people who have been placed in isolation after possibly having contact with two people who’ve passed from the highly contagious virus. The two people reportedly died from the virus, according to CNN World. 

“There’s a whole multi-disciplinary team in the field trying to ensure that we are able to unearth the real source of this,” said Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye, the head of Ghana’s health service to BBC Focus on Africa radio.

There are currently no approved vaccines for the virus, but doctors say drinking lots of water and treating specific symptoms can boost a person’s chances of surviving the virus.
