Ghostface Killah recently revealed he’s never watched Hulu’s hit series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and his reason is quite interesting. In a chat with Touré on his show that aired on June 28, Pretty Toney opened up about his decision to skip the series.
“I never seen that shit. I never watched it. Never in my life,” Ghostface shared. “RZA knows that. Because that’s not my story. You want a Ghostface story, you get a Ghostface story.”
He emphasized that while parts of his life, like having two brothers with muscular dystrophy, were included, the series didn’t capture his full narrative. When asked if he was curious about the show, he bluntly replied, “I don’t care about that shit.” Although he acknowledged that it’s great the show received positive feedback, he mentioned he never watched it because he never spoke with the writer of his character’s role.
Interestingly, Ghostface isn’t the only Wu-Tang member who hasn’t seen the show. Last year, Method Man told Kevin Hart on his Golden Minds podcast that he also hasn’t watched it. He wanted the show to have creative freedom without feeling constrained by his personal opinions.
“In the beginning, it was like, ‘Wow, they’re taking a lot of liberties here with the story.’ I haven’t watched an episode, personally, but I get the scripts ahead of time. Everything ain’t for everybody, that’s all I could say,” Method Man explained. He added that he didn’t want to interfere with the production process and trusted RZA’s vision.
Method Man praised RZA, calling him a “genius” who changed the music industry by negotiating contracts that allowed Wu-Tang members to sign solo deals with different labels. This innovative approach was a game-changer in the music world.
Despite not watching the series, both Ghostface and Method Man respect RZA’s leadership and the legacy of the Wu-Tang Clan. Their stories highlight the complexities and creative choices behind bringing such an influential group’s history to the screen.
