Model Gigi Hadid found herself in some overseas legal trouble recently after being caught with weed and drug paraphernalia shortly after arriving in the Cayman Islands.
The IMG Models signee was detained on July 10th along with her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy upon arriving at the Owen Roberts International Airport, Cayman Marl Road reports. They flew in via private jet for a vacation, but their bags were still passed through a scanner. That is when Customs & Border Control agents discovered marijuana and tools used to consume it, which could be a number of items, including rolling papers or bongs. The specifics of the utensils are unknown, but authorities did confirm that it was only a small amount of herbs intended for personal use and not enough for distribution.
Both ladies were booked on suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of Ganja. McCarthy and Hadid were placed in the Prisoner Detention Center but were quickly released on bail. To avoid further legal action, the women pleaded guilty to the charges during their July 12th court date. They were each forced to pay a $1,000 fine with no additional discipline.
A spokesperson for Hadid told E! News that the drugs found were medical-grade marijuana which was purchased legally from a dispensary in New York City. It appears the rocky start of her trip was the only mishap on the vacation. She and her gal pals continued to enjoy the island after paying their dues.
After news broke, the model took to IG to post a photo/video dump of her trip, captioned: “All’s well that ends well.”
