Gilbert Arenas doesn’t play when it comes to money, he’s made that perfectly clear. Now a former employee is having to pay big time for ripping him off.
A federal jury in Orlando found Gilbert Arenas’ former personal assistant, 40 year old John A. White, guilty of stealing roughly $2 million from Arenas while he played in the NBA. White was found guilty on 11 counts of wire fraud and 4 counts of filing a false tax-related document.
From 2006 through 2012, John A. White worked as Arenas’ personal assistant. He managed to steal roughly $2,188,170 from Arenas by making unauthorized online banking money transfers from one of Arenas’s bank accounts into three different bank accounts that he controlled. He then spent the money on things like rent payments, and to buy himself a Range Rover and Ferrari….because an assistant rolling around Orlando in a Range Rover and Ferrari won’t raise eye brows at all.
The tax fraud charges come from White and his wife filing joint income tax returns with the IRS and never reporting more than $60,000 in gross income, despite the fact their joint income was much greater than that considering all the money White was funneling out of Arenas’ account.
White could face a maximum of 20 years per wire fraud charge and a max of three years per false tax document charge. Long story short, he could be in jail a long f*cking time! His sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 19.
