Girl Scouts Troop 709 in Iowa was robbed of a $200 donation box from cookies sold when a teenager robbed them. The three girls from the troop were with their parents when the robbery happened.
Marah Pearce, Madison Williams, and Abby Hugen set up in front of Hy-Vee supermarket over the weekend to sell cookies when they were approached by a teenager who seemed like they would purchase a box of cookies. The suspected teen, Carlisle, ran off with the donation box.
Williams says, “This guy came up and acted like he was going to buy cookies. Then he just stole the donation box and ran off.” WHO13 has the video interview of the girls explaining what exactly happened.
Girls Scouts rely on in-person sales when it comes to cookie season. And many thoroughly enjoy the season to pick up their favorite flavors ranging from Thin Mints to Samoas.
Pearce continues with the story. “We were helping another customer, and then he was there. And when the other customer left, he just snatched and ran.” Thankfully surveillance footage captioned the thief on camera at a nearby Target.
Hugen says she is “disappointed” that someone would steal from Girl Scouts. The troop planned on donating the money to “people who have to go in and out of cars for COVID tests.” Hy-Vee supermarket donated $200 to the troop to express their sorrow helping ease over the unfortunate incident.
