“Girlfriends” star Keesha Sharp is taking her talents to the big screen to memorialize the life and legacy of the late, singer, dancer, activist and author, Eartha Kitt.
According to Deadline, Sharp has teamed up with her husband, Brad Sharp, to develop and produce a Kitt biopic, based on 2013 biography written by John Williams, “America’s Mistress: The Life and Times of Eartha Kitt.”
Not only will Sharp be working behind the scenes on the project, she will also star in the film as the late legend, who’s best known for her work as Catwoman in the 1960s Batman TV series, as well as her musical hits, “C’est si bon” and “Santa Baby” and much more.
“Eartha Kitt was a force in the entertainment industry and an icon who opened doors for so many women, especially women of color during a time when it was not popular in America,” Sharp said of her muse, who died in 2008 of colon cancer, at age 81. “Although I may have been compared to her in the past, I am passionate about bringing her story to life because everyone needs to know how incredible she was!”
“People don’t mention her in the same conversation with the icons of Hollywood, but she belongs there,” Sharp continued. “The biggest star at the time, Orson Welles, called her ‘the most exciting woman in the world’ for good reason. Her life was full of complexity, pain and triumph, and I am thrilled to take on the challenge.”
