GM Recalls Nearly 600,000 Trucks and SUVs Over Sudden Engine Failure Risk

GM Recalls Nearly 600,000 Trucks and SUVs

General Motors is recalling nearly 600,000 full-size trucks and SUVs in the U.S. due to a serious engine defect that could cause the vehicle’s V8 engine to fail without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

According to documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue involves manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and/or crankshaft of the L87 V8 engine. The problem can lead to engine damage or complete failure without any warning indicators.

The recall affects 597,630 vehicles, including:

  • 2021–2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV

  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe

  • GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL

The engines were built at GM facilities in New York, Tennessee, and Ontario. The company will inspect and repair or replace affected engines at no cost. Owners will begin receiving notification letters by June 9, 2025.

The move follows an ongoing federal investigation into engine failures in GM’s popular L87-equipped vehicles. The NHTSA launched its probe in January after receiving dozens of complaints.

This latest recall comes just months after GM recalled nearly 462,000 diesel trucks and SUVs over faulty transmission valves that could lock up rear wheels.

Customers with questions can contact Cadillac (1-800-333-4223), Chevrolet (1-800-222-1020), or GMC (1-800-462-8782), or visit nhtsa.gov for more information. GM’s recall number is N252494000.
