The GoFundMe page created by Shannon Amos, daughter of actor John Amos, has been taken down. The page was intended to raise $500,000 for her father’s “legal, medical, future housing, and care expenses.”
This removal likely stems from the accusations made earlier this week by the Roots star, who claimed to be a victim of elder abuse at the hands of his daughter. He also accused her of “financial exploitation.”
As of Thursday, the initial campaign had garnered over $13,000 from more than 300 donations.
Shannon had previously shared on Instagram that she received a distressing call from her father while he was at a Memphis hospital, reporting immense pain and being told he was in critical condition. She mentioned her collaboration with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations to ensure prosecution and protect her father’s future, attributing the victimization to a trusted caregiver.
In response, John, 83, released his own video on social media, filmed from a hospital bed, in which he accused his daughter of elder abuse. He stated that she would be the primary suspect, alleging a case of elderly abuse.
John assured his fans that he was doing well, contradicting the distress described in the GoFundMe page. He requested the campaign to cease immediately, with the funds to be returned to the donors. He mentioned that he and his son would provide further information in due course.
A representative for Shannon expressed her disappointment with false and defamatory statements made by Mr. Kelly K.C. Amos, presumably on behalf of or in connection with news reports based on his social media posts. They mentioned exploring legal remedies and hoped for resolution through proper authorities.
John clarified that he was not currently in the hospital due to recent events, except for a previous hospitalization about a month ago for water retention and other addressed issues. He expressed confidence in the medical staff assembled by his son and spoke about ongoing issues with his daughter, whom he felt had taken advantage of him.
