In the words of Fantasia, “free yourself,” and that is exactly what news anchor TJ Holmes did, clocking out of his 12-year marriage.
The Good Morning America 3 host pulled the plug on his relationship with his longtime spouse, Marilee Fiebig. On Wednesday, the brown-eyed bandit filed for divorce in light of news that he engaged in an extramarital affair with also-married co-host Amy Robach. Yahoo previously reported that Holmes and Robach left their spouses in August to explore a relationship with one another. However, the overall timeline seems a bit off, considering that Holmes and Fiebig spent his birthday together that same month.
Despite both consenting adults reportedly separating from their marriages months ago, a different source told Page Sixt that Fiebig was completely “blindsided” by her husband’s affair. When photos of Robach and Holmes on supposed dates outside the workplace hit the internet, Fiebig allegedly had no idea there was a romance taking place.
Holmes filed for divorce in New York City just two days after he and his new love were spotted in an Atlanta airport together. It appears that the couple has plenty of free time now after being suspended by ABC while an internal investigation is underway. The network is also looking into other workplace affairs that Holmes may have had prior to hooking up with Robach, who is still legally married to Melrose Place actor Andrew Shue.
As of now, it is unclear whether or not Holmes is demanding anything from his lawyer wife in the divorce. The now ex-lovebirds tied the knot in March 2010. They share a nine-year-old daughter, so a custody agreement of some sort wouldn’t be surprising.
Meanwhile, Lifetime producers everywhere are likely rubbing their hands like Birdman as we speak. This script is truly one that writes itself.
