On Tuesday, Google paid homage to the late R&B icon Luther Vandross on what would have been his 70th birthday.
Vandross, who passed away on July 1st, 2005, won eight Grammy awards over the course of his illustrious career. Before taking off with his solo career, Vandross performed backup vocals for Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, and David Bowie, to name a few. In 1981, he released his critically acclaimed debut album, “Never Too Much,” with the title track climbing to number one on R&B charts, solidifying his place in music forever.
Other beloved Luther records include “Dance With My Father,” “A House Is Not A Home,” “Here & Now,” “Power of Love,” and “Endless Love,” which was recently certified platinum.
“It is a true reflection of Luther Vandross’s musical legacy around the world to be honored by Google with an animated video Doodle that fittingly captures the joy Luther has brought the world,” the Vandross family expressed in a statement obtained by Google.
Visitors to Google.com could click the Luther Vandross logo to view the animated tribute.
May the “Velvet Voice” continue to rest in peace.
