To commemorate Black History Month, Google has introduced a new shopping feature to help shoppers identify and buy Black-owned.
The feature is an expansion of another element that launched over the summer, “which allowed businesses to identify as being Black-owned on Google Search and Maps, the attribute will now be available to use on Google’s Shopping tab.”
Over the past year, the interest in supporting Black-owned businesses has increased tremendously. According to People, the new feature comes after Google reported a 600% increase in search requests for “Black-owned businesses.”
“We want to make it easier for people to support and spend dollars with the Black businesses they love,” Google wrote in a blog post.
The company reported that people are interested in “recommendations for everything from restaurants to bookstores, beauty products and more.”
Participating businesses will have a custom badge — a black heart on top of an orange-colored background — by their name.
To add your Black business to the attribute, visit the Google Merchant Help Center.
According to Yahoo News, “When adding the attribute, business owners also have the option to opt into ‘include my business in promotions for Black-owned businesses’ to potentially have their business and products featured on Google pages featuring Black-owned businesses.”
Aforementioned, the tool will be made available on Google’s Shopping tab in the coming months.
