Grand Opening, Grand Closing: ‘Headphanie’ Bottles Pulled Off Shelves

Earlier this week the internet was caught by surprise when photos of Hennessy bottles branding new Young M.A. inspired labels were found in a Florida liquor store.

The ‘Headphanie’ Hennessy bottles by Lilac Company were first seen at 24/7 Liquor in Hallendale and quickly sold out. However, as images and videos of the liquor bottles went viral, Lilac Company was met with resistance. The company was quickly accused of using Young M.A. to market their product without rightfully cutting her a check. According to the company, they attempted to reach out to Young M.A. previously, but were ignored.

Rumors began to surface online saying that both Young M.A. and Hennessy served the company with  cease and desists, however Lilac Company denies these claims. “All production is done and all bottles have been removed off shelves,” the company tweeted. “We have not received any cease and desists from anyone. We stopped it because it was the right thing to do. There has been no legal action taken against us.”

Lilac Company says all bottles have been removed from the shelves of liquor stores across Broward, Dade and Palm Beach.

Lilac Company isn’t a liquor company, but specializes in graphic design on merchandise. A few of their t-shirts reflect logos that are very close to some major brands. Whether they faced legal repercussion for the use of Hennessy or Young MA’s “Headphanie” is unclear, but it’s a very slippery slope when you’re dealing with big brands, trademarks and money.  It’s best not to get yourself in these situations. They’re lucky they didn’t face a major lawsuit.
