During the final second of a Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics game last season, Celtics forward Grant Williams was fouled before the buzzer sounded. As Williams walked to the line to shoot potential game-winning free throws, Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell came up to throw Williams off his game. Grant’s response to the trash talk was the now infamous 4-word phrase: “Imma make ’em both.” Unfortunately, Williams missed both free throws, and to make matters worse, the Cavaliers defeated the Celtics 118-114.
Grant sat down with Taylor Rooks for a one-on-one interview, and he was able to give us some more insight into the hilarious finish to this game. Taylor surprised Williams with a trip down memory lane, playing a video from Donovan Mitchell giving his vantage point from last season, which made the interaction even more hilarious.
“I think one of the funniest things was after he missed, he grabbed the net,” Mitchell said while chuckling in the video. “He grabbed the net as if the rim had moved like it wasn’t his fault he missed both. Cause it was like bruh, like, you done f*$# up already. Might as well just take this “L” and go head back to the bench.”
Williams chimed in to give more context.
“He’s not the first one to say that. (Marcus) Smart said, ‘You walked up to the rim like it moved,'” Williams told Rooks. “I said ‘In all honesty bro, the second free throw went in and out and I was just mad at the fact that it didn’t fall. I actually yelled at Tony Brothers. And he was like ‘It’s not my fault you missed a f&%$#^ free throw,” Williams added to this hilarious situation.
NBA referees even shot down Williams’s confidence after his botched guarantee.
Williams and Taylor Rooks’ conversation was entertaining and worth watching.
