Head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich, suffered a mild stroke on November 2. Since the beginning of the month, the 75-year-old coach has stepped away due to what was described as a very serious health emergency, with no further details provided at the time.
Popovich has missed the last six games, but the team announced he is expected to make a full recovery and return to the sidelines, though no specific timeline has been set. There had been speculation about Popovich’s potential retirement a few years ago.
However, the Spurs’ fortunes changed when they secured the number one draft pick, leading them to select standout talent Victor Wembanyama. Days after the draft lottery, Popovich signed a three-year contract extension, signaling his intent to develop another star big man and aim for another championship run before retiring.
The Spurs have gone 3-3 in Popovich’s absence, and the NBA community is thankful and optimistic for his full recovery.
