During a roundtable discussion with Porter Magazine, #EllenPompeo criticized the publication for its lack of diversity.
Porter Magazine set up a roundtable interview for its annual “Women in Television” issue, and while there, the “Grey’s Anatomy” star addressed how the magazine failed to highlight more women of color. “This day has been incredible, and there’s a ton of women in the room,” Pompeo said. “But, I don’t see enough color. And I didn’t see enough color when I walked in the room today.”
Pompeo’s comments came about during a conversation about diversity between her, GabrielleUnion, #GinaRodriguez and #EmmaRoberts. The women also mentioned sexism and equal pay issues in the professional world. Continuing her thoughts on diversity, Pompeo recalled a time when she told the director of an endorsement project that she wanted the crew to “look like the world that I walk around in every day. I think it’s up to all productions to make sure that your crew looks like the world we see.”
She added, “As caucasian people, it’s our job, it’s our task, it’s our responsibility to make sure we speak up in every single room we walk into,” Pompeo added. “It’s our job because we created the problem.”
