A young teenage boy will be charged as an adult in the murder of an elderly Philadelphia man.
According to Fox 29, 14-year-old Richard Jones is accused of beating a 73-year-old man named James Lambert to death on June 24. The incident happened a little before 3:00 a.m. when surveillance footage captured a group of teens going after Lambert on the street in northwest Philadelphia. The video, which was released by police, shows the teens striking the man with traffic cones. One of the teens allegedly pulled out their phone and started recording the assault.
Jones was reportedly the first to hit Lambert. A female suspect was also identified; she was seen in the video hitting Lambert at least three times. Police are still searching for five other suspects, who have been described as two Black males and three Black females in their early to middle teen years.
After being taken to a nearby hospital, Lambert died from his injuries a day later.
On Monday, Jones and his 10-year-old brother turned themselves into the Philadelphia Police Department. Jones’s younger brother was released without any charges, reports Fox29 Philadelphia. Jones is being charged as an adult with third-degree murder for alleged criminal conspiracy.
