‘Grownish’ Star Yara Shahidi Graduates from Harvard

Yara Shahidi is an official Harvard graduate.

Before finishing her last courses to earn her degree, she counted down the days on Instagram.

“Yara (noun): a Harvard graduate,” the 22-year-old wrote when she shared a pair of graduation photos that were taken by Paul Mardy.

A Vogue article published Thursday says that Shahidi selected a custom two-piece suit styled by Jason Bolden made by Dior to go with the standard cap-and-gown look. While working on her 136-page thesis, titled “I Am a Man: The Emancipation of Humanness from Western Hegemony Through the Lens of Sylvia Wynter,” Shahidi admitted she felt “pushed” as an academic.

The experience also gave her a unique opportunity of being able to connect her passions during her four-year studies at Harvard, Complex reported.

“Having a final product, and being in conversation with people who appreciate what I had to offer, was a necessary way to end my journey with a newfound confidence,” Shahidi said to Vogue.
