At least two people are dead and three more injured after gunfire erupted at a Las Vegas Athletic Club on Friday, May 16th.
Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of North Rainbow Boulevard at 1:34 p.m. after reports of “shots being fired,” according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. At the scene, officers encountered a suspect armed with a firearm.
“Officers identified a suspect standing at the door armed with the firearm. The suspect ran out the door and officers discharged their firearms, striking him,” police said. “The officers immediately took the suspect into custody and rendered aid. Medical arrived and transported the suspect to UMC Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
One person was found dead at the scene. Two others were hospitalized, including one in critical condition. A third victim self-transported with “non-life-threatening injuries.”
Witness Gary Steward, 20, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “As we’re walking up, bullets started coming through and people started flying out.”
Another witness, Claudio Vigani, recalled to KLAS-TV, “They said ‘Get out, get out, get out,’ then I saw the dead guy next to the machine.”
Footage from KSNV shows the suspect lying motionless in the parking lot, surrounded by officers.
Police confirmed this is the third officer-involved shooting of 2025. No officers were injured.
The Las Vegas Athletic Club posted: “We are heartbroken by the tragedy that occurred today at our Northwest club.”
It’s unknown if the shooting was random or a targeted incident.
