Rapper Gunna being released from prison caught everyone by surprise and raised some eyebrows. However, a source close to him has confirmed that he will not be testifying against Young Thug or anyone else in the YSL indictment, Rolling Stone reports.
Gunna walked out of Fulton County jail on Wednesday, shortly after news broke that he’d accepted an Alford Plea. This guilty plea allows a defendant to maintain their innocence but admit that the prosecution’s evidence would likely end in a guilty verdict when and if presented at trial. During the plea hearing, Gunna is heard confessing that he held “personal knowledge of members of YSL committing crimes in furtherance of a gang.” He told the judge that YSL was indeed a gang that “must end.” The most damning confession that sent social media into a tailspin was the “Top Off” rapper admitting to being in the car with Young Thug during a 2017 traffic stop where police discovered drugs and a handgun.
Fans of Thugger slammed Gunna for allegedly turning against his label head and friend. However, an insider spoke exclusively with Rolling Stone and reiterated that Gunna has no plans to testify against Thug or any other YSL affiliate. Instead, his plea was intended to keep him as neutral as possible. They explained that neither the state nor the defense planned on calling Gunna to testify against anyone.
Gunna also released a statement stating that he would not be providing any incriminating statements to build a case against any YSL member.
“Have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case, and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” the 29-year-old shared in response to claims that he was a snitch.
We likely will not hear Thug’s thoughts on the situation for a while as he continues to fight his RICO case. However, on Friday, he scored a major win in court when a judge granted his motion to suppress certain evidence in his case.
