Twenty-four hours after Gunna was released from Fulton County jail, his attorney Steve Sadow took to social media letting everyone know the rapper did not snitch in exchange for his release.
“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail. He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies!!!” Sadow wrote on his Instagram account. The lawyer captioned the post in all caps for emphasis, “TRUTH!!!”‘
Young Thug’s sister also came to his defense, asking the internet to stop accusing him of something he didn’t do. “Can ya’ll please stop saying that people snitch and this and that,” she said via an Instagram video. “Nothing that’s going on is helping my brother, so can yall please stop. If yall love Gunna, then yall give him some support.”
The Atlanta rapper was released from prison on Wednesday after saying he entered a plea “to end my personal ordeal,” his statement read.
The rapper insisted he did not consider YSL a gang when he became affiliated with the social club in 2016. However, the 29-year-old is heard in a viral video admitting he was a member of the ruthless Young Slime Life — a music label and a gang — headed by Young Thug, who is still in jail.
In the footage, Gunna confirmed that he became affiliated with YSL around 2016. He admitted YSL is a gang and had “personal knowledge” that YSL “committed crimes in furtherance of the gang.”
Gunna, whose legal name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, went on to say that he has “NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against” any parties in the case, which include his co-defendant/YSL founder Young Thug.
Gunna had been behind bars since mid-May when he and other YSL associates were accused of conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
Although many are convinced he snitched, Gunna actually negotiated a plea deal known as an Alford plea. He was sentenced to five years — with one year commuted for the time he’s already served. The remaining four years of his sentence have been suspended, and he will have to do 500 hours of community service.
