Gypsy Rose Blanchard Released From Prison After Serving Time For The Death Of Her Mother

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the Missouri woman imprisoned for the killing of her mother, Clauddinnea “Dee Dee” Blanchard, has been released from prison.

On Thursday, the Missouri Department of Corrections reported that she was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center at 3:30 a.m. local time. In 2015, Gypsy Blanchard and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, were arrested for the murder of Dee Dee, who was discovered stabbed to death in her Springfield residence. Gypsy Blanchard admitted to second-degree murder and received a 10-year sentence.

If you’re unaware, Dee Dee subjected her daughter to years of abuse by deceiving both Gypsy and the public, convincing them that Gypsy was gravely ill when she was not. Gypsy was raised with the false belief that she suffered from various conditions, such as leukemia, muscular dystrophy, vision and hearing impairments, and seizures. She relied on a wheelchair and feeding tube and underwent numerous surgeries that were later revealed to be unnecessary. Additionally, Dee Dee is alleged to have falsified Gypsy’s age on documents, portraying her as younger than she actually was.

Gypsy revealed that her growing curiosity about the outside world led her to create a dating profile and initiate an online relationship with Godejohn. As she became more involved with him, her mother allegedly became jealous and demanded that Gypsy stay away from him. Gypsy shared with “20/20” that her desire for her mother’s death stemmed from her longing to break free from the controlling and abusive situation she was in.

In June 2015, Godejohn confessed to police that he had stabbed Dee Dee in her bedroom, expressing that his motive was to protect his girlfriend. Subsequently, he was found guilty of first-degree murder and received a life sentence in prison.
