Halle Berry has reached a critical point in her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, as the Oscar-winning actress is now seeking sole legal custody of their 10-year-old son, Maceo. Berry claims that Martinez’s harmful behavior is having a severe impact on their child, and she believes sole custody is the only solution to get Maceo the help he needs.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Berry alleges that Martinez has been a major obstacle in addressing Maceo’s serious behavioral and learning challenges. She asserts that while she has been trying to get their son the support he needs, Martinez has consistently prioritized soccer over schoolwork, even refusing to hire a tutor because it would interfere with Maceo’s practice schedule.
Berry also claims that Maceo becomes angry and combative after spending extended time with his father, accusing Martinez of discussing their parenting conflicts with the boy and skewing his perception of the situation. These issues, Berry argues, are taking a significant toll on their son’s emotional well-being.
Despite their current arrangement of joint physical and legal custody, Berry is now asking the court to grant her sole legal custody, which would allow her to make all decisions regarding Maceo’s education and therapy without interference from Martinez. She believes this is the only way to help her son get back on track.
The custody battle between Berry and Martinez has been ongoing for years, with the couple separating in 2015 after just two years of marriage. Although their divorce was finalized last August, their disputes over how to raise Maceo have continued to escalate.
Berry says she has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to resolve these conflicts privately, but now feels she has no choice but to take the matter to court in hopes of securing a better future for her son.
