Halle Berry takes her role as an MMA fighter in “Bruised” very seriously, even if it costs her a few broken ribs.
The 54-year-old actress sat down with Entertainment Weekly to dish on the forthcoming Netflix original flick, confessing that she broke two of her ribs during the first day of filming.
“I told the director about it. They told the insurance. We had to shut down for months, and it was a big ordeal.” Berry stated that since the production was an independent film, the budget was not that big. For this reason, she decided to push through and finish the movie, which serves as the actress’s directorial debut.
“The director in me said, ‘I didn’t come this far and work this hard to go home,'” she said.
The film, shot in 2019 in Newark, New Jersey, follows the journey of disgraced MMA fighter Jackie Justice, portrayed by Berry. An aging fighter, Jackie must train to go head-to-head with one of the sport’s younger, rising stars while working to regain custody of her 6-year-old son. UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko and the Bantamweight and Featherweight champion, Amanda Nunes, will make guest appearances in the movie.
“Bruised” will make its debut on Netflix on November 24th.
