One day after settling his fraud case, Donald Trump took to Twitter to address an incident that occurred the night before.
“Our wonderful future V.P Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!” the President-elect tweeted. “The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”
Trump’s tweets were in response to a statement the “Hamilton” cast delivered to Pence the night before, asking the Vice President-elect to work on behalf of ALL Americans. Which apparently rubbed Trump, as well as his supporters, the wrong way.
“The cast and producers of Hamilton, which I hear is highly overrated, should immediately apologize to Mike Pence for their terrible behavior,” Trump demanded again, Sunday morning. But, it seems to be a waste of time, being that there is nothing to apologize for, so says “Hamilton” actor, Brandon Victor Dixon.
On Monday, Dixon took to “CBS This Morning” to dish on the statement and Trump’s demands.
“The producers, the creatives, and the cast ― we recognize that ‘Hamilton’ is an inherently American story told by a definition of the American community,” he said. “We are men, women of different colors, creeds and orientations. You know, the resonant nature of the show throughout the world, throughout the global community, demands we make statements when there are important issues facing us as a community. So we wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and unity considering all the emotional outpour since the election.”
He continued, noting Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail and producer Jeffrey Seller, as key creators of the statement. Afterwards, Charlie Rose informed Dixon of the President-elect’s demands, to which Dixon said, “I heard” and sipped his tea.
“There is nothing to apologize for,” he said.
