A judge has ordered Harvey Weinstein to be extradition from New York to Los Angeles, where he faces new sexual assault charges.
According to reports, Weinstein learned his fate on Tuesday, when a court in Erie County, New York, overruled Weinstein’s objections and ordered his extradition. Prosecutors in New York expect he will be transferred to California by the end of June or mid-July.
The disgraced film producer attended Tuesday’s court session virtually from a New York jail serving a rape sentence.
Weinstein’s lawyer, Mark Werksman, told TMZ that they’re going to file a motion in Los Angeles County Superior Court to stop the L.A. County District Attorney from bringing Weinstein to Los Angeles “until he can receive the medical care he desperately needs in New York.”
Weinstein wants to stay in New York because his health is failing. His legal team alleges he is legally blind, has serious dental problems, and suffers from cardiac problems, diabetes, back discomfort, and sleep apnea.
