HBO hit series the ‘Watchmen’ seems to be getting new episodes, this time as a limited series.
“We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments,” the network said in a statement Friday.
The show, based on the DC comic series, Watchmen, took home the New Series win at the WGA Awards earlier this month. The show is also nominated for two NAACP awards for Best Drama Series and Best Actress in a Drama Series for Regina King’s leading performance as Angela Abraham.
Executive producer and showrunner Damon Lindelof has always maintained that the series would have a concise storyline with a beginning, middle, and end as opposed to an ongoing story that drags out over multiple seasons.
Lindelof spoke with Variety the day after the show’s finale in December, where he spoke on the possibility of more seasons of the show.
“Right now the space that HBO is in and that I’m in is we’re asking the question, Should there be another season of ‘Watchmen’? And if there should be another season, what would it be? I’m not saying I don’t want to do it, or it shouldn’t exist. I’m just saying, ‘Boy, every idea that I had went into this season of “Watchmen.”‘”
The Watchmen takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where a white supremacist attack on the local police department leaves only two surviving cops. Soon, laws are passed that allow the police officers to hide their identities behind masks. One of these cops, Angela, chose to take matters into her own hands by taking on the identity of Sister Night as she begins to fight racism.
