A devastating medevac plane crash in Philadelphia on Friday has left at least seven people dead, including six Mexican nationals and one person who was on the ground at the time of the accident.
The tragic incident was confirmed by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Saturday.
Mayor Parker revealed during a press conference that the person on the ground who lost their life had been inside a car at the crash site. In addition to the fatalities, Parker stated, “Thus far, our count is that there are 19 injured victims.”
Mexican President Sheinbaum took to Twitter to express her condolences and announced that consular officials have been instructed to support the families of the six Mexican citizens who perished in the crash.
The aircraft belonged to Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, a company based in Mexico but licensed to operate in the U.S. According to the company, the plane was carrying four crew members, a young pediatric patient, and the child’s mother when it went down.
The child was a girl en route to her home in Tijuana. Tragically, both the child and her mother were among those who died in the crash.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, while support efforts are being organized for the victims’ families.
