A high school basketball player is facing charges after sucker-punching a player from the opposing team.
Following a game in Iowa between Nevada and Carlisle, a Carlisle Wildcats player punched a Nevada opponent in the stomach and face before being pulled to the ground. Shortly after, players from both sides attempted to break up the fight.
Nevada dominated Carlisle in this game, 72-47.
According to the Des Moines Register, “no indication” has been given as to why the fight took place. According to the criminal complaint, the victim suffered a “serious enough concussion to render him unconscious” and required four stitches.
A police report confirmed that Carlisle player Carter Prenosil was arrested and charged with willful injury.
“It’s a very unfortunate situation,” Nevada superintendent told TMZ Sports. “I’m happy they deescalated it. I thought our coaches and staff handled it well and got everyone out of there without it worsening.”
