A top New Jersey high school football team has been hit with shocking allegations of hazing and sexual assault which has led to the suspension of some school employees and the cancellation of a playoff game.
Wall Township High School’s semifinal game initially scheduled for tonight has been called off in the wake of the hazing allegations.
The allegations include claims that older players on the high school’s foot team allegedly pinned down a younger player and hazed him with a broomstick as he screamed for help.
In a letter to the community, Wall Township Schools Superintendent Dr. Tracy Handerhan said, “Upon hearing of an anonymous rumor concerning allegations of hazing among Wall High School football players, the school immediately contacted law enforcement and appropriate state agencies.”
According to CBS News, students reported that video of the incident had circulated and some were concerned that players stood by and recorded it instead of getting help.
The New Jersey Education Association teachers union confirmed some school employees have been placed on administrative leave and assigned an attorney to assist in the pending investigation.
